No my comment does not contradict my previous posts. We let the criminals live, so as a society on a whole we are no better than the weakest link. Execute them and then we wont have any convicted murderers or rapists in our society.

Its like schools and grades, if you are gonna fail, you dont sit the exam, then it dosnt look bad on the school sats, as most the people should pass.

As harsh as it is tho, if you look at a penal colony or a prison, ther system of dealing with people playing against the system is genrally a lot more effective than our "civilised" ways. So really you gotta ask who is in the better society.

The question is how can we minimise all the harms caused by crime. I think a system that imprisons those who are a danger to society and attempts to minimise their future risk and costs to society with the least amount of force necessary is the best way to achieve this.



The quote you used is meant to mean that a civilisation should be judged by how it treats is weakest or least liked members. The way we treat these people reflect on us.



Yes and no. If we take murder as an example, most of the countries with low homicide rates do not need to use barbaric methods to achieve this. Most of them have abolished the death penalty yet still manage to achieve low rates of homicide.

Well if you want to go and make friends with some serial killers and rapists go ahead. If you look on the sex offenders register theres some people for you to treat nicely. However as a human race that is ultimately how civilised we are, we are rapist murderers and paedophiles. Until we can get rid of these peopl and stop these crimes fom happening, we will never be any better as a whole.
