Tap water or bottled water?

I don't know a lot about this subject but I find it interesting.
In most developed countries I believe that the tap water is very good and very safe to drink. Since the 80s we have been buying so much bottled water. I heard on the BBC radio tonight that we spend more on bottled water than we do on many other things. I believe that bottled water in "most" cases is just purified tap water. That tap water was very good and clean in the first place and all that is achieved is the removal of trace minerals and metals that are said to be good for us? Could it be an expensive fashion statement?
So is this bottled water bad for us, or is it better than "good" tap water?

i drink bottled cause my town water supply has been infected with ecoli repeatedly over the last three years and they refuse to build a new water treatment plant untill 2008!,
when it will most likely be pushed back further.



so i don't trust it anymore.

i'm not fussy. tapwater, bottled water, river water, rainwater, it's all good!

I drink both as well. I just hear so much difference on opinion.

Depends on where I am.
My friend has awsome well water.
I on the other hand have over clorinated city water YUK!

I drink either, have no preference but just a thought evian is naive spelt backwards?

we tried and they said no...

a group from the town went and sat outside the government offices for three days with big jugs of our water to see if they could convince any member of government to drink a glass.
all but 1 refused.
but i'm supposed to sit here and gulp it down, scumbags.

We have crypto sporidium in galway but luckily I'm out in the country
