Please look after your passwords carefully

It seems that once a week, someone has a little outburst, or abuses someone, and later says "it wasn't my fault - someone took my password".

Aside from the fact that I frankly don't believe that line 90% of the time, your account is your responsibility. If you leave your password floating around for anyone to find, then don't be surprised if the mods end up having words with you over use of your account.

"Someone took my password" just doesn't cut it with me. Look after your password, and make it secure and something that can't be easily guessed. In this computerised day and age, we should all be familiar enough with the rules of password creation, but just in case, here are some guidelines for creating a secure (or as secure as possible) password:

1. Do not make it too closely linked to information that is public about you. e.g. First things I'd try are your birthday, your name, your pets names.

2. Include upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers and non-alphanumeric characters

3. Put the upper case characters in odd places, not just at the beginning

4. DON'T BLOODY WRITE IT DOWN NEXT TO YOUR MACHINE!

5. If you use a computer that other people have access to, especially people who think that causing trouble is funny, don't tick the "remember me" box.

Thanks Doug, i have also had a LOT of that in the past couple of weeks and i dont have much sympathy im afraid.

Would the person who left me negative kudos saying "I disagree" care to elaborate on exactly what part of the above they disagree with, and why?

Stumblin my friend you have a very good point here. Everyone should protect their account if they cherish the privlege of posting on tfs.

You know as Mods we have a job to do but we'd also like to be able to have some time to read the post and participate in them ourselves and when we're running aorund trying to figure out why the hell somenone who is normally nice has went off the deep end it's just senseless..
