When everything is signed for, when do you get the money from the sale of a house?

And what happens afterwards? Do you move out immediately or sometime after?

I'm not sure when you would get your money.

I don't know about the UK, in the US you agree to the "closing date" in the contract, and that's when the buyer is taking possession of the property, so you would have to move out before then.

OK, I think the UK would be kind of similar to the US, I have heard this goes through solicitors, mine and the buyers etc..

I think it's when you exchange contracts, then the money is transferred. I've watched a few property programmes where they've said not to move out the house until the money's in your account. That's the extent of my experience, sorry!

Sounds different from here.

Here you set up "escrow" where you agree on a closing date. On that day, the buyer provides funds to a neutral 3rd party (escrow/title company). That 3rd party makes sure the seller signs over the title/deed to the property before releasing the funds. You also have title insurance where they research who owns the property and any liens, etc against the property. They would pay any liens from the money in the escrow account before giving any money to the seller.

I think in most cases its 30 days to move in, but as Tino said you can ask to move in sooner as I did and was in my new home in 2 weeks

Well, I know that everyone agrees on a date to exchange contracts, but I'm not sure about the rest
