Seriously, I can see administrative costs coming out of this as long as it is not excessive. But 96% seems excessive. Seriously..

Production of the cards isn't the only thing that goes into the price.

The revenue from the cards has to pay for all of the overhead of the manufacturing company (administrative staff, creative staff, maintenance staff, offices, power, heating, cooling, etc), shipping, overhead of the brick and mortar store (administrative staff, sales staff, clerks, maintenance staff, power, heating, cooling, etc), and other various costs.

All of those costs must be accounted for before you can start talking about the profit obtained from a product.

4% of the revenue from card sales is probably more like 50% of the profits.

But do you know how much the profit per card is compared to the price you pay per card?

They could be using their accounting methods to claim a 10 pence profit on that ?3.99 pack of cards, making the charity donation 2.5% of the price you paid.

Well which is it?

100% of profit or 100% of revenue?

100% of the revenue would mean that you are indeed forcing the company to shell out money to charity. And that's cool.

Pampers are offering a vaccine for every pack of nappies sold, in collaboration with unicef. So they are marketing this as a giant gesture.

The truth: a vaccine is 2.5p

They are donating 2.5p from the price of about £8.00 for a pack of nappies.

Thats 2.5p per pack going to charity. Cheap advertising IMHO.

Hasnt pissed me off, but it has made me very concerned about what this world is coming too..

When you consider that donating to charity would have very rarely taken place in the recent past, the world seems to be 'coming to' something good. With the advent of popular media and the resulting awareness of world poverty, more and more people are encouraged to donate money to charity. At the beginning of the 20th century, probably about 95% of the world's population lived in conditions which we would now consider to be very poor. Now that figure is probably about 60%. Still some way to go, but we're certainly getting there. The fact that people actually care about poverty means that a difference will be made.
