This is one of my older poems written for a forum that I am part of, that deals with survivors of child abuse, was wondering what you all thought of this. Thanks!
Across the desert sands, over the towering mountains,
Through the valleys, meadows, and the forest,
From country lanes to the hustle and bustle of city streets,
In every nick, and every corner of this grand nation,
Another child, another innocent soul cries out.
We wish it wasn't so,
We wish it wouldn't be,
We wish it never existed,
But like the blowing wind,
And the falling rain,
It simply is.
As the rivers run cold and life blooms,
The lakes swell, filled with earth's blood,
Another child hides in the dark
With tears running down pale cheeks,
Wishing and praying for an angel, a savior.
We wish it wasn't so,
We sih it wouldn't be,
We wish it never existed,
But like the blowing wind,
And the falling rain,
It simply is.
Upon a moonless night with not a glimmer to see,
A child stands alone, frightened and battered,
Dreaming of a savior, an angel to descend upon them,
But no savior rushes from the crowd,
No angel sits beside them in theri hour of need.
We wish it wasn't so,
We sih it wouldn't be,
We wish it never existed,
But like the blowing wind,
And the falling rain,
It simply is.
With snowed tipped peaks, lustful meadows, and desert sands,
From the distance lands far and wide, even across the seas,
Contact is but a ketstroke away, the mughty gift of technology,
Teh web stands as a tool of uniting like voices,
From the pit of evil to the victims bounded for survival.
We wish it wasn't so.
We wish we had no reason to be.
We wish the past was but a nightmare,
Only the nightmare lives on,
Lurking under the cover of darkness,
Striking our children, stealing their futures.
A candle lit upon a mantle, a simple one of wax,
Its flame flicking, flutterinf in the cool breeze,
With a touch of a keystroke, a single note upon the wire,
A message rings out, one of caring and understanding,
One of lending a hand to hold, a virtual hug, a kind ear,
As the day tumbles and the night approaches, we stand united.
We wish it wasn't so.
We wish we had no reason.
We wish we didn't know.
We wish we didn't understand,
But we do,
And here we stand united.
