No better ice breaker than that you have to admit. After that, what could possibly embarass her?

You and the 'other half' are in it for the long haul, your not marring the in laws, so you need not be nervous. He likes you well enough and must trust that no matter what craziness his family displays you will still be excepting of him.

I am more worried about MY craziess not his families! But yes we are in it for the long haul and we will indeed be marrying each other rather than the family directly but it is still marrying into the family so for them to accept me would be a big thing that I have not had before. Little nervous about meeting hsi friends too

Look, families have a way of shifting and wiggling and settling . They always find a spot for everyone. as long as you love their son/brother/nephew etc... you will be a part of the family.
If your craziess can't scare him off then i wouldn't worry about it scaring the rest of them.

They will love you, how could they not, you're a lovely girl! I went through the same. Some things I found that helped: be super duper polite, make conversation, smile a lot and show interest in them - this is all stuff that will come naturally anyway. Above all don't try so hard that you're holding back, I did the same thing for a while as it was so important to me that they liked me because they're so important to him, but Neil made a good point - relax and be yourself more because they like you anyway but the most important thing to them is that you make their son happy.

So Tuesday will see the first time that I meet my other half's family. Have to admit that I am nervous about is as I want them to like me and get on with me. All tips welcome as to how to loose the nerves and just be me! How did you make a good impression on the future in laws? Or are you the In laws- how did s/he impress you? Bit too late to worry now but stil....!

just be courteous, kind and true to yourself. Whatever happens, I'm sure it won't be worse than the first time I met my wife's family. They LITERALLY tried to kill me

They still hate me

I'm still married to my wife

It just irked them to no end how happy I make her... but then started to win them over... kinda

So be yourself. In the end, the only thing that matters and the only true measure of how good a choice you are for their little boy/girl is how happy you make them. A good parent will want to make sure you take care of their child, and not be concerned about how much you appease them (the parent).

And yet it irked your wife's parents to no end that you make her happy? That is truly odd of them and very selfish...I agree otherwise with your post.

How may I ask, did they try to kill you?
