I read this somewhere and, me being atheist, I found this very interesting and probably true...it pretty much sums up my views anyways:
"The god many Christians believe in isn't the actual god, it's a personal god they make up in their head whenever they need something. It's a petty little god that helps them with mortgages and turns the other way when they cheat on their wives, stiff the waiter, or fight with their loved ones. Many Christians are far less forgiving and much more judgmental than those of other faiths that I, personally, know. In fact my Jewish friends (granted only two) are as open-minded if not more accepting of others' beliefs than the Buddhist I know (us Americans and our silly ability to worship other dogmas and judge those who don't think like us). I know many Christians who believe in free will, but are vehemently against abortion, even hating those who have had or would have one. I know many Christians who denounce gay rights, who have even 'joked', so that it's 'okay', that AIDS is a gay disease. I know Christians who judge women for having had multiple partners in their lives, women who have fallen in love over and over again only to find it wasn't to be, being judged by these people who have never said 'I love you' to any partner they've been with and demonize sexual interactions. All the while being the product of sex between their mother and father. At least in America, it seems to me, our Christians are very narrow-minded people.
The god many Christians believe in isn't the actual god, it's a god of sheep."
btw this was not by me...
