You brought up the Teutonic Order, who changed their name as well. Changing it to the Order of the Knights of the Cross. After conversion the Letts formed an order which they styled as Knights of the Sword!

What do Philipinos have to do with this??

Actually nothing, but if you read ALL of epicnessincarnate's postings, you will see the reference. Anyway, I have always wondered how the Templars would have dealt with the Ifugaos if the Templars had managed to reach the Philippine Islands.

Originally called Poor Knights of the Temple of Solomon. In more modern Times their name has been reduced to the Templars, they were said to be a mendicant order! They most certainly existed, their original reason for coming into existence was escorting pilgrims and merchants to Palestine. The majority of the Templars were Frankish (French)soon after arriving in Palestine they changed the name of the order to Knights of the Hospital of St John and the Temple of Solomon. After the conquest of Palestine and Jerusalem in particular,
the Knights changed it's name to the Kingdom of Outremer, they made their first outpost on the Temple Mount, but soon began building castle fortresses throughout Outremer. In the conquest of Jerusalem it is said that they annhilated the population irrespective of whether Jewish or Muslim. It is suggested that the Templars explored the water tunnels under the Temple Mount and discovered much gold hidden there. This they appropriated unto themselves, and is thought to be the basis for the vast wealth the order had. Eventually they were defeated militarily at the Horns of Hattin, following that battle all of the Crusaders including the Frankish King (a member of the Templar order) began a retreat having been given assurance by Salal Ad Din (Saladin)that they would be safe if they left the country. They finally ended up in one of the Castles they had built at Acre in the Levant, from which they returned to Europe.

if the ifugaos were smart they may have been able to hold out for a few years but if they tried to meet the templars head on it would have been a massacare.

Yes, the Ifugaos did resist European intrusion. According to Blizzard, my son's Ifugao girl friend, the swine flu in 1919 made them want to cooperate with outsiders. So, the Templars' superior weapons might have been ineffective, but just like in the HG Wells novel, germs might have been the real weapon.

My family name originated from the Knights Templar.
So either I am a decendant of a Knight Templar, or I was one of the illigitmate destitute children raised in their charitable homes.

So I'm either a knight or a bas......

Take your pick.

There are lots of books on the Crusades and specifically the Knights Templar. They certainly were real and in their heyday very wealthy and powerful. You could search amazon books for information on them or the Crusades and you will find many books on them. These would give better information than most programmes and websites.
