Supreme Court narrowly correct on First Nation Sovereignty.

On May 27, 2014, the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a 5-4 decision in the case State of Michigan v. Bay Mills Indian Community. A five justice majority issued a ruling that works in favor of the Bay Mills Indian Community. While a great deal of commentary is likely to be focused in the majority decision, this column is about the dissent by justices, Thomas, Alito, Ginsburg, and Scalia, and their tacit acknowledgment that a system of domination has been and is still being used by the United States against our nations and peoples.

I don't know if that is good news for the working class members of the First Nation, but I sure hope so.
But the system we have here in the UK works in favour of the minority of wealthy people who own the all the land and resources against the majority who have to sell their labour (mental and or physical) to make a living.
I sure hope what ever happens in the future it benefits everyone.
But that is a seperate issue as this is a different kind of 'domination' and I'm not sure how to end that. but I sure hope this is a step forward to raising the standard of living for the first nation people as I'm for that.

Not sure about each Nation but generally that is the attempt. Gambling has ALWAYS been a part of our histories (I'm assuming prolly every culture as well). With little & no resources in many reservations this has been providing monies for infrastructure that is sorely lacking from promised Treaties. Some Nation's provide per caps from revenues others put it all back into the infrastructure.

I get that, but when you see the misery it causes, I understand that you can't ban it, that would be counter-productive. But dare I say it is a vice and what do you get back in return if you lose? Nothing.

Someone always gets screwed (literally & figuratively). What are those Nation's to do that have NO OTHER resource? Keep in mind WE DID NOT ASK TO BE PUT ON RESERVATIONS.

I get that, as Marx said "morality cannot be higher than economics allows".
In an ideal world there would not be any reservations.
