Can anyone recommend a good book on investing for someone who doesn't really know anything about it?

I want to start investing so I'll make some money!

well, yes and no on that one. He compares stocks to Gambling, and doesn't recommend them. but he's got some damning evidence as to why he doesn't recommend them, so it's a good book to read to get both sides of the picture on that.

an example was that the best professional stock brokers average only a 22% success rate, which means they are wrong nearly 80% of the time. i wouldn't want my money to depend on those kinds of odds. Statistically, only a very slim percentage of people who buy stocks make any money from them.

Read the "INTELLIGENT INVESTOR" by Benjamin Graham.

Even Warren Buffett says it is the most definitive book written on investment till date!

Great praise? The book deserves it. Read it and know yourself!

John Maynard Keynes knew a thing or two about economics, apparently. Seems to work for our government. Could work on an individual basis. Sorry, joke. My sense of humour is feeling like that tonight.

If you are looking for books on investments. I highly recommend "the Power Curve" by Scott G Kyle. If you are worried about being advance for "investments for dummies" books this good is perfect because it goes over basic concepts for options and derivatives but also goes in depth to offer insightful strategies and tips for better returns. Look it up on google I am pretty sure they have a website that where you can download the first chapter to read. i hope that helps! Good Luck
