I've finished Stephen King's Lisey's story now, and it is amazing!!

Now i'm starting on DreamCatcher - another Stephen King which is also proving to be gripping!

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.

I'd recommend Dracula as a fine example of Gothic horror. Sci-Fi I can do no better than recommend the Dune saga, but start with Frank Herbert's original 6, starting with Dune and finishing with Dune Chapter House. I've started reading the extras written by Brian Herbert but FH's syntax is sorely missed. BH, by the way, openly asserts that he (and his co-author(s?)) have not tried to duplicate that syntax.

Lady of Hay by Barbara Erskine - wonderful time travel.
Also all of Robert Goddard's books.

Try Vampire Kisses. I forget who the author is but it was a REALLY good book.
