So she didn't come over on a fiance visa? Each visa has different rules.

I honestly have no idea. We're talking about 1968 here!
They didn't talk to me about the legalities but the story goes like this...

Mom was adopted in 1958 by a woman from NY who was working as a liaison overseas. Mom and Dad met in S. Korea, where Mom was living (presumably for Grandma's work) and Dad was stationed in the Army. Mom came to the US in 1968 to marry Dad, but I don't remember if Grandma was still overseas or not. Mom took her citizenship test during Eisenhower's presidency.

That's actually all I know.

Oh, that could be too. She was adopted overseas by an American who was living overseas so that may have been a contributing factor.

I have friends who were adopted from Peru and Guatemala. Adoption seems easy in comparison. I guess the government like babies more than grown ups.

She was a grown up when she became a citizen. 20 years old.

I know alot of people have scammed the government over the years on the fiance and marriage visas, but it's unfair it makes it so hard for the legit couples out there.
One of my coworkers sister got married to a foreigner and as soon as the two years had passed, he dropped her fast. He was a jerk anyways. Everyone saw it but my coworkers sister.

Many people use marriage as a way to get the visa quickly. But I know a couple who are truly married and none of them were from the US, which had a hard time obtaining a visa to stay in the US for almost twenty years up until now. The couple are married and stayed in the US for more than 10 years and still weren't able to obtain a green card. It was sad for me to see one of them get deported.
I don't know what is the government trying to get out of this deporting people, seperating them from family members.
how will they possibly deport more than millions of undocumented immigrant? It just seems really cruel. Deport those that trying to commint crimes. Not those who desperatly trying to have a regular life.
