What's the borderline between conceited and having a good self-esteem?

Does calling yourself smart and pretty make you stuck up? Or can that just be haters making one feel bad?

You only need to remind people of those things when they try and say you're not.

Well, a healthy self esteem means you already feel pretty and smart, and there is no need to gloat about it or say it outloud. Does that make sense?

Usually if someone has to go around saying these things, they really don't feel it deep down.

Now if you were to say to someone "i think i am pretty" i don't think that makes you conceited. It is really in the delivery IMO of how you say it, and the MOTIVATION for why you said it....

That's the key. The motivation for what makes a person have to say it outloud. Sometimes it makes perfect sense other times it sounds like a gloat.

Hmmm I dunno. People I've been around keep calling people who think good of themself snobby. And they keep bringing people down. So that kinda makes it seem like saying ANYTHING good good bout yourself makes you a gloater or whatever. And some say good things about people.

I dunno. This is all new to me. I don't know WHAT to believe or say...

It IS new to me. My people (in person) only respect down to earth people, and hate snobs. So I just have no idea. lol

No, now what you speak of is different. There is a certain type of people who HATE anyone who actually seems happy with themselves. Those people have issues with their own low self esteem. That isn't what I was referring to.

I think you should be yourself and as long as your words or actions are not intentionally said to hurt someone else than whomever has a problem with it can get over it.

There are people, women moreso than men, who can't stand any other women who are comfortable with who they are because they themselves are not comfortable with who they are.

And is it normal to feel physical pain just by trying to think good of myself?

I think the difference is...

If someone starts a thread and asks if people think they are attractive. If one responds with "I think I am attractive" that is a normal answer and reflects positive self esteem.

If one answers "don't hate me because I am beautiful" and really means it, that is being conceited.

And there you have described the difference of motivation for the words that I tried to convey in my post.

The delivery and motivation of how it is said makes a huge difference.

Good example.

Well and then there is that. Or if they get too nasty a good head shove in the loo can work.

Ok I jest. (well...maybe heehee)
