I know I will probably lose some points on this, but here goes... Follow the link to the article about "The Man Who Could Save The World". This guy invented a gadget, in Canada, that can knock emissions down to almost zero. After test, the exhaust pipe wasn't even hot. It is still in the development stage, but looks very promising (Don't worry..I don't have any financial interest in this)
It allows for a cleaner and more efficient burning of the fuel.

Fossil fuel emissions really aren't much of a problem, compares to the more impending issue of actually running out of fossil fuels..

Re: baker63, unfortunately you may be right. NASA bought up the rights to a product that, if painted on dwellings, would cause almost 100% efficiency with heat..and it was never heard from again. And there have been many inventions in the past that have been bought out or if not bought out the inventors have not been heard of again or "mysteriously" killed.
Re:jonnythan, you also may be correct, the misuse or overuse of oil may be causing it to run out. Just think, plastics, lubricants, almost everything we use comes from an oil base one way or another. Unfortunately, because of this it is very profitable for those "in control" [conspiracy? oh no!] It will probably take a major economic catastrophe or political upheavel to force a change, otherwise the world is far to dependent on oil and all it involves.

I agree with you that we are far too dependant on fossil fuels. I know of many people that modified cars or solar cells to make themselves more self-reliant and were shot down when seeking a patent.

I really hope that this emissions thing works out. It's been a few months since you initially posted this, is there any news? I'm really interested.

I don't think that there has been any headway made since the first post. Even with fuel prices the way that they are all congress is discussing is price relief and not conservation. I mean on the hybrid cars there is a 4 to 5 k premium on the cars that wipes out any savings that you would save in gas. It makes no sense to me at all.
