Is there a psychological reason behind it?

I'm sick of having tunes running around my brain

I don't know but it can be really annoying if it keeps you up at night.

I have ALWAYS got a song in my head. There isn't a moment where I don't have something in my head. It can be very annoying.

Researchers say that the music most likely to get lodged in the brain has a simple, catchy, repeating tune and/or lyrics (or even an unexpected musical twist), and has been heard frequently on radio or TV. The brain seems to dip into its repeating repertoire most often when we?re tired or anxious.

I think sometimes when it sticks in your head it has something to do with a feeling or a memory.
Like a happy song if your in a good mood. or a sad song might remind you of someone you lost or hurt..

I'll hear songs in my head even while other songs play on the radio. The feelings I get from some songs are so strong that they blot out other sounds. When I play them again later, it's like I can hear every note and the singer's voice is so clear, and I sing along with a smile.
