Someone who's not an extremist nutbag would be a start.
This is very true. Paul DOES have extreme positions such as ending the "war on drugs" by legalizing Marijuana and Heroin. Now, if that isn't extreme, then I don't know what is, BUT I do understand his reasoning behind that. His concept is basically that people will do stupid things and if they are going to do stupid things then they should pay the price for their own stupidity, not society. A drug addict can go and addict the hell out of themselves and overdose and die because stupid people will do stupid things. That is effectively his opinion on that. I find that pretty... interesting. Would it work? Possibly... but its also a massive regression back to times before the Great Society and New Deal. It would be an interesting social experiment if ALL of Ron Pauls idea were put in place.
On top of that, I don't find that possibility likely. I mean, as much as he would like to, I doubt he could get the US to go and end the Fed, however, I cannot get over how he seems to be more economically aware than his GOP mates. The other point I like of his is his idea of trying to make the US dollar powerful again. How he would do that, I don't know. The End the Fed rallying cry is something that seems much of a double edged sword to me. Ending the fed would make banks immediately more vulnerable to financial shocks thus making them more risk-averse which would be a good thing since they were the ones involved and orchestrating the entire financial meltdown starting with the Deregulation back in either Clinton or Bush, I can't remember exactly which. The bad thing would be... No more FDIC Insured.. which is actually really bad.
Anyways, he's got lots of interesting things to do, but for the most part, I think he'd succeed in the things people want more of. Nobody likes the NDAA or the Patriot act except security companies so that should be able to be repealed by his power. The end of all foreign military actions would be something he could find lots of support for so I am sure he could get that through. Legalizing marijuana would be something I think he COULD possibly manage, but not sure. All the other stuff, I seriously doubt he would have the political clout to pull off. Remember, Republicans don't like him and nor do Democrats.
