A girl asked me if I "fancy a drink" on Friday and I replied from time to time but I think I didn't understand the question correctly since it was really awkward after I replied. She just sort of smiled or something and talked about how late she was for her next class and left.

I asked my friend about it and he told me it means "do you want to have a drink?" I don't trust him because he and I mess with each other a lot and I'm worried he's just trying to mess with me again.

She had a British accent and I've heard it from British accents before but never really understood what it meant so I figured the British on TFS would have an answer.

What the heck does it mean and am I going to look like an idiot on Monday?

Your friend was indeed correct. I would typically ask the question that way- or do you fancy a cuppa or do you fancy curry. It just means 'do you want'

Yeah means do you want to go out for a drink, however usually when phrased it with the word "Drink" it implies alcohol ( I found in my experiance), if it aint people say "fancy a coffee" or "fancy a cup of tea" etc

Yeah she wanted to go out for a drink with you. Hence the awkwardness after your response.

Damn, that is what I was fearing. Thank you, everyone. This reminds me of when I thought "lads" meant girls. I swear, if I ever went to the UK, so many things would go wrong it wouldn't even be funny. Thanks again.

She wanted to have a drink with you. So when you didn't give her the answer that she expected from you, so she made the excuses that she was late for her class. You should answer yes my friend.
