Have any of you seen the new Milk jug? It's apparently soposed to make shipping milk easier and somewhat cheaper on consumers as well. It more square than the traditional jug of milk.It also appears to be taller . The major complaint with this new milk jug is that it's hard to pour the milk from the non-raised spout and you end up spilling the milk.

The advantage to the Milk jug is soposed to be that it can be shipped alot more efficeintly than the old jug. It apparently eliminates the need for milk crates and can be stacked jug on jug stacked on a a pallet and wrapped in shrink wrap.Reports say it allows for a truck to hold much more milk. It could save consumers up to twenty cents a gallon. I'm wondering how well it's going to fit into the refrig myself though because the jug looks taller to me.

I have'nt encountered any of the new jugs of milk in the store but apprently they are already in Cosco and Sams stores.

I haven't seen them. But I wonder if they are going to be packing them in together a lot tighter, would it affect the freshness. Only because the very center gallons don't seem as though they would get/stay as cold as the outer ones during transport. That's kind of a scary thought.

But if they are at sams, I might go there today and check them out.

This is kind of unfamiliar to me. Should this jug be in the regional forum?

WTF?

Advantages:
It's stackable, reduces water usage, gets milk to stores faster, reduces delivery trips because more fit on a truck, and is 10-20 cents cheaper per gallon.

Disadvantages:
Easier to spill, need to remove a foil seal from the opening before use.

The only milk I see in those types of container here now days is maybe a half gallon of buttermilk. I have'nt seen alot of the paper or cardboard types in a while.

I think it's a ploy to make it more economical to ship the milk actually from what I'm hearing.

Well, that's exactly the idea. It reduces fuel, storage, and transportation costs by being stackable and using less plastic.

Note that these new jugs are 1 gallon, not 1 quart or 1 liter like the square cardboard and wax ones.

This is the big advantage:

Can't do that with regular milk jugs. It's a big deal for storage and transportation.
