Now that you are all giggling or thinking, he can't type that, I am wondering if anyone has heard of this and when did you heard about it?

As far back as the 60's, authors have used page 69 as a test for readers to buy the book.

If you google it, you will see many sites talking about this. When you are not sure if you want to buy a particular book, turn to page 69. If you like what you read buy it, if not put it back.

We heard about it today when we were checking to see if we could get a list of book by a particular author. A link showed up and he was saying that book failed the page 69 test.

If this has gone back as far as the 60's, I must live under a rock.

For those of you who know about this test, do you use it?

I grew up in the 60's and never once used that as criteria for a book-selection.

I grew up in the sixtys, and never heard of this before.

I think it is quite unsensible really; and probably just a matter of luck. (not to mention that the sixtys were the "free love" days, and the number 69 and what it represents connected to it. )

But interesting nonetheless!

Must be a Canadian dog thing.

I've never heard of it either. I'll have to try it with books I've already enjoyed.

The only reason I could see it working is that it's a decent amount of the way through the book...you can see if the author's going to hold your interest.

Or experimental lit and page 69 is left blank for you to fill in yourself.
