if we are indeed 'above' all other animals, does that not place on us the responsibility to take care of everything beneath us? im not saying we shouldnt eat meat, shouldnt ever kill an animal-- thats just nature, but some people on here have such a disgusting view that the world is only there for man to plunder and exploit however we wish... if we are indeed the highest species, that doesnt mean that we can do whatever we want with the world-- it means that we are charged with making sure the world remains balanced...

And, we are managing other animals. My cousin is building a nice herd of big, meaty angus. Steaks from those critters are gonna be mighty tasty. MMMM-MM GOOD.

These are such orthodox views in a society saturated in speciesist norms and values. Due to an element of safety in numbers, the conventional can make such jokes. They flourish like sexist jokes in sexist societies and racist jokes in racist societies.

Unnecessary? No, because that's the way I like my steak. I don't eat it unless it's rare (rare steak=a little bloody).
