https://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/06/06/scotus.medical.marijuana/index.html

"The U.S. Supreme Court Monday ruled doctors can be blocked from prescribing marijuana for patients suffering from pain caused by cancer or other serious illnesses.

In a 6-3 vote, the justices ruled the Bush administration can block the backyard cultivation of pot for personal use, because such use has broader social and financial implications."

Discuss.

i agree with the verdict, on the basic principal that more medical research into the long term effects of drug use is needed!
also the problems of crime could be put into question to.

but is it a good enough pain relief?
its mind altering and thats probably why it works gud as a pain killer. im not sure if it would work just AS a painkiller!

i wouldnt legallise it at this moment in time. still alot of socio problems from alcohol and tobacco. they need to be tackled first and fore most.

this is just my basic, logical opinion. ive missed a lot of details out.

I don't agree with banning medical marijuana, but since it is a controlled substance there needs to be more regulations, at least here in Washington State.

A guy in the town I used to live in was prescribed the use of medical marijuana, but no one ever told him how to get it, where, or how much he was allowed to have. So he used that opportunity to grow hundreds of plants in the loft of his garage. The police raided his house - they took all of the pot, his computers, digital cameras, and pretty much anything else they could consider 'evidence'.

Now, whether growing that much pot was right or not is questionable, but he was still within the law, because the law did not clearly state how he was supposed to go about it.

I think that if it can have some benefits, it needs to be regulated better so that people can't take advantage of it (because a lot of people would try to sell their medical marijuana), and so that people who are using it for what it's intended don't get in trouble for it.

I'm still on the fence about the whole issue. Regardless, I still thing that more needs to be looked into it for the Court to legalize or keep it illegal. Yeah, we've heard that no one has ever died from smoking marijuana, but we do know that it still causes lung cancer and lung related illness after prolonged use. I think that more needs to be known about how it would be prescribed, dosage, and such or are people just going to feign illness to get marijuana and have an excuse for smoking it?

I don't know anymore.

And what about all the mental and physcological problems that can be caused or induced by marijuana, it doesn't just affect the body physically. There are so many problems in society that are caused by marjiuana usage.

I think it should be used for medicinal puropses (yeah... medicinal.... 'cause without it I could go..... even ..... blinder....?! ) bceasue there are some people out there that absolutely nothing is working for them - like, people with terminal illnesses and stuff. I think its fairly simple. We know there are health risks involved in the overuse of pot so lets just make sure people dont over-use

It's so idiotic. They can prescribe morphine or codeine, but they can't prescribe pot?

I think I’ll celebrate by marrying a woman and taking a few valium. The day I see a pot head pay a ‘pot tax’ is the day my life will truly be complete. What a world.
