How do they do the polls?

So they always cite these poll numbers.

How exactly do they do these? Do they still call people at home? Seriously, who still has a home phone these days? I'm pretty sure there are rules against calling cell phones for such things.

Are the polls really based on people that still have home phones?

They can really be misleading. I don't trust them at all. But unfortunately, that is what elections are based on...

I belive CNN has one on their website but I always wonder about thes "polls" too.

Perhaps this is the reason why their polls during the primaries were so far off.

Looks interesting.

Seems to be based on polls to try and predict electoral votes. I don't know how accurate it is though.

I know this is kind of off-topic, but my favorite poll is taken from The Simpsons. Kent Brockman was reporting a gallup poll taken (whatever for, I don't remember). Anyway the results were like 98% in favor, 3% against, with +/- 1% error. That's just classic funny to me.
