I just saw this on the news, apparently this man went to a hospital, he waited in the ER room for 80 minutes, then died of a heart attack, then was robbed!!!!
Nice to know the hospital there cares for the people who come in seeking medical attention!!

Well when one of your relatives, mom or dad perhaps, should happen to suffer a similar fate, you not going to be too happy about it now are we???

Does it still count as belonging to the man if he's dead?
And yeah is there a source to this at all?

From a UK pov as far as the healthcare professionals are concerned dead people deserve the same respect as alive. When doing last offices you have to talk to them and stuff.

8) It's not unusual, unfortunately
I was once in the Emergency section of the Royal Children's Hospital, one of my kids had fallen suddenly and seriously ill, and as I stood at the counter hurriedly filling out the forms, desperate to get back to him, some low-life lifted my wallet from right beside me on the counter!
They had security cameras, but REFUSED to look and see who had done it! Only the police could request THAT, and they weren't interested in such a "petty" crime!
I bet if I'd arrived in a Rolls-Royce they might have reacted differently, but who gives a s*** about a single-parent disability pensioner?

My relatives all have excellent private health insurance. We don't wait in hospital emergency rooms for 80 minutes before we drop dead.

But I guess that would be a reason to back national healthcare... so nobody gets treated like that.

Opportunist thieves are everywhere and although theft cannot be condoned in any way, the living need to have their wits about them at all times, otherwise they fall easy prey to petty criminals.

For the deceased, the security of their effects is the moral - and should also be the legal - responsibility of the carers in situ.

If such a theft happened to a relative of mine I wouldn't be too worried about the loss of cash. I would be more upset if we suffered the loss of something personal, such as a letter or a photograph that was in the wallet / purse or whatever that was stolen.

Criminals have no conscience. They care only for the credit cards or cash they can get their hands on and will often destroy anything else to remove evidence of the crime. To the grieving relative that seemingly insignificant letter, or faded photograph may have immense personal importance.

In my opinion, money doesn't really matter. Memories do.

As far as I know, here in Oz that IS the case. Legally enforceable, with precedents and successful prosecutions.
You make very good points Jen.
There was much in that stolen wallet that it broke my heart to lose, I emptied every bin within a kilometre and prowled through all the places it might have been discarded, without luck.
I have never again put anything in my wallet that it would hurt to lose, once bitten etc.

First of all, the thief's a thief, so there's a lack of dignity. And second, he steals from a man who just died from a heart attack? That's cruel...
