Complete restore

I posted a topic about a week or so ago aboutnot being able to start my pc at all.

I recently aquired a Windows 2000 professional edition CD and used this to install windows 2000 professional, therefore fix my laptop.

Once logged on i placed my original windows xp cd into the drive to upgrade, but it came up with error, and tht the current version of windows doesnt support an upgrade so i had to do a new installation instead.

That all went fine, but when i went to connect to the internet it didnt have my dirvers installed for my wireless wlan card. So i downloaded all drivers i needed from the packard bell website nad transfered them via usb onto my laptop. But when i went to install they was all installing on C: drive which is the windows 2000 instal, rather than E: drive which is my windows xp installation. I couldnt change them

Is there a way i can delete the windows 2000 installation now that i dont need it? and also, when i go to install one of the drivers for the wirelss one of them says that windows needs service pack 2, is there a wayi can get this because i did have it first of all before the problems started!

XP didn't ask to overwrite the windows 2000 ? weird.


You can get SP2 from windowsupdate.com

Yeah but i suppose you have to do that validation thing, ad i cant connect to the internet via my laptop. And also is there a way i can delete winddows 2000?

Yeah you have to validate it I think. That's the only way I know how to get SP2 unless you have a CD.

I have no idea about deleting win 2k.

Go to my computer right click on the windows 2k partition and format the bugger
