How does a guy know that the girl is into him?

I sometimes come across girls who stare at me and others smile. I had this incident with a gal at the mall, we were standing in a queue and I was behind her, she kept on looking back as if looking for someone but I could notice that her eyes were on me. Please clearify especially ladies or guys who are informed.

Usually some conversation with said person would be helpful. She could have been looking at you for a number of reasons. Ask her if you've met before and see where the conversation goes.

Maybe she was looking at him because he had a booger?

You would probably know if she smiled at you. But if you are a total stranger chances are that she isn't immediately into you. A girl will probably have a better answer.

Best way to see if someone is interested is to just talk to them. you'd be amazed at how many peoples numbers you could get if you just show a little confidence.

The few I knew came right up to and told me.

Although there was one time I was laying on the beach and two girls were trying to get my attention by insulting me - I didn't realize that they were interested and thought they were just being jerks until years later.

I've had some girls in public give me the most beautiful smiles but it looks more like an 'angel' thing than it is an 'I'm interested' thing.

Not necessarily; I smile at strangers a lot..but if she smiles, and does it often, accompanied by a certain 'look' in her eye, and holds her gazes a bit longer that what is normal, then yeah.

If she "kept on looking back" you both missed an opportunity..one of you should have opened your mouth and simply said 'Hi', or you could have asked her if she was waiting for someone...that might have cleared up any doubt whether she was interested or not.
