Mommy has seen the Maya on Oprah a few times. She has this quote, I did what I knew at the time. When I knew better, I did better. I am going from the memory and I hope that is the exact quote. Mommy likes that.
It sounds like a good one! I remember when I went to see her in person, it was at a local college... the line to get in was SO long! By the time we got in it was standing room only, and people were being turned away at the door.
She's said and written so many things that have inspired me, I'd be typing the rest of the night!
I'll share this one tho...
There was a Mom with an infant in the audience. The baby was fussy and making alot of noise, and Ms. Angelou excused herself from what she was discussing and addressed the issue of the crying baby. "This darling young baby," she says..."Needs to know he's wanted here!" She then proceeded to have everyone repeat after her, just this little mantra, sing-song little thing to the baby... about how precious he is and how much his presence there was indeed wanted and appreciated... not in big words like that of course... it was so moving! In just a minute or so the baby calmed down, and the seminar went on. The baby never made another peep!

maybe the parents of my Grandfather, I think I would try to talk them out of selling/sending him to the work farm
