I've always felt that the embargo of Cuba backfired on the US. You are right- if it always fails- let it.
Otherwise, was it communism or the embargo that collapsed the system?

ive always said that the workin classes need to rebel and politics needs to benefit eveyone. i morally agree with the EU but at the moment its causing more problems and tension than good. but like i say morally they mean good. unfortunately they are very much driven by money and power still and that is not the way forward

All political and social systems fail in the long run because there will always be the elite, or the few powerful who scrape the cream off the top and leave the rest of the populace with bitter milk.

Historically communism is something America, and Americans, have fought against, with wars, sanctions etc. There are views both ways, but a lot of people see communism as a failed idea. What I would like to debate is whether it is a failed idea, why capitalism is better, and whether the process of communism losing favour would happen quicker if it is allowed to run its course and people living in communist regimes get to compare their lot with those
in capitalist economies.
The debate is made all the more interesting with the information
revolution. Satellite TV and internet, and the global sharing of information makes it hard to
peddle the party line exclusively. More and more, people are arming themselves with facts
sourced beyond their governments and making up their own minds. If Cuba were allowed to
trade freely with the world, and the Cuban people realised how their standard of living could
improve, would the regime stay in power. Can the same be said of other countries around
the world, including Burma. What do we all think on this, and particularly, why is
communism such anathema to Americans who could probably see it discredited so much
more quickly if they just ignored it?

Communism is secretly invasive. Secondly the party in power, though not the majority, has complete control over its people.

Some would say that describes the USA!
