I don't concider all of the Harry Potter books as children's books. One of the great things with this series is that it grows along with the reader and the main character himself. People didn't start dying until the fourth book, and it just gets darker and more "mature" all the way.

I agree that they mature throughout the series - but I would still categorize them with children's (adolescents, young adults) books. I have read plenty of kid's books that are dark, mature, etc. Simply because they have these particular characteristics does not make them adult's books. But, I've been reading 'adult' books since I was a kid, so I may be a bit biased about what I consider adult-worthy versus children's lit.

Yeah, the WoT would also probably take a fairly long time to make into movies. Maybe just the first few? And then you have to Read and Find Out

If I recall correctly, I saw where a company had acquired rights for the first book to make a movie but I have yet to see anything about that . . . I've also seen a few comments over the years about doing a t.v. series or mini-series or something like that with some of the books, but the task is quite daunting for most out there. And, you'd have to get decent (hopefully) actors to commit to a long period of time to do these properly.
