in your opinion, what are the biggest motivations for some people to rationalize or justify their personal racism?

personal experience, i think if they are attacked by someone of another race some people tend to think they are all the same.

A for instance i can think of was a guy on holiday who had his wallet stolen and harked on all week about how the Greek were theiving bastards

We base our opinions on how people around us behave. Racial stereotypes
usually have a reason for being.

It seems like the pressures for political correctness have made it difficult to have
an honest discussion of this subject.

Generalizations are never true. Racism is generalizing. Racism should not exist.

Generalizations are true, more or less, for a broad category and are not meant to describe an
individual.

if everyone in the world inter-bred until there were no more distinct nationalities/races/creeds then we would be able to hate someone for the a*****e they truly are

Racism exists for many different reasons. Sometimes it is ignorance. Sometimes it is due to sheer hate. People blame parents, media, schools, and the overall "system" for the causes of Racism.

However, I feel that Racism would be eliminated if we did more education on cultural differences early on in the elementary years. Kids these days are growing up in a Multicultural society and need to be respectful of every single culture around them.

The worst is when you run into a person that thinks Racism is not as prevelant in today's modern society. (Usually it's the white upper class males saying that sort of stuff) That's when things get filtered down the ladder...it's all about whoever has the most power will get their voices heard the most....and for a long time (although it is SLOWLY changing) unfortunately the "White Man's" voice rules so far....

I agree with bukjoe.I believe the problem is that people are too slow towards change and acceptance of other culture's. This has to do in part because of the socialization of ourselves by our own parents and communities. We generally teach our children the same values and ideas our parents taught us. But of course we shouldn't follow them all.

With so many different cultures in our "melting pot" society in the U.S. it's essential that all cultures and societies of people learn acceptance toward each other otherwise there will always be racism. Change and acceptance is a fact of life.

I do not believe that people hate or dislike each other based on the color of skin. That is just a myth to me. It's our cultures that clash and cause the tension.

I think one bad apple ruins it for the whole bunch. I think if one person makes it bad for the race, it ruins it for the rest.

I try not to do that, I try to get to know each person. I get tired of attitudes of people of any race.
