Oh okay, then its not much different than here, the only difference is that you have 5 national broadcast channels where here every city has its own set.

And they have to pay a TV License for the 5 free channels or they get in trouble. Whether they actually watch TV or not.

Oh right, they are public broadcast channels, aren't they? No advertising to cover costs.

Yeah something like that, though I think they still get some commercials but not as much as we do? something like that

I would still rather have commercials. At least if in the USA you're broke, you can still get TV without paying for it

Oh f***ing HELL!!! Talk about flogging a dead horse. Having said that, what do I care? I've never followed it and I'm not starting now. I just object to the sheer waste of money and the dumb-f***ery of it all.

Meh, I liked it in the early years but once you started getting the fame hungry wannabes acting up on it for the last few years it lost it's edge. They probably should've just left it at about series 5...

I"ve never been into it. I had roommates for awhile who worshipped it. I watched it with them and then would go back to my room LMAO how serious they took it

According to the Daily Star the tasks are going to involve nudity in an attempt to sex up the show.

In other news the EDL are awesome and Muslims are evil.

It actually covers anything that is capable of receiving live broadcasts, you have a TV? you pay, you have a computer with a TV card in? you pay, You have a computer without a TV card, but watch the catchup service on the internet, you don't pay.

You only have to pay if you have a device capable of receiving live broadcasts, so if you don't have any such device in the house, you don't pay at all. You could "screw" the system by not having a TV in your house, and using the internet to stream all your shows once they have been shown on TV.

All the BBC channels are public, of which there are about 10+, which don't have ads on them. The rest aren't, and do have (very annoying) adverts.

And there is nothing to stop you from watching TV if you don't pay the license.

Then why do people get into a panic about paying it if you don't have to pay it? all over FB and TFS from time to time I see people saying they have to pay it and it's due and etc etc. I'm just going by what I have seen on TFS previously about this.
and I thought you have to pay now if you have the internet? I think JMO has mentioned that.

Because there are people that investigate those who don't pay (you get fined £1000 I believe). But I have know people who don't pay, and all they say is you don't answer the door to anyone you don't know, and that is how they get away with it.

You only have to pay if you watch what is being broadcasted live, which can be done with at lest the BBC Iplayer (I don't know about other channels website). If you use the internet to watch shows that have already been broadcasted this is fine. (like if you watch the latest soap that is normally broadcasted at 8.00pm, but you use Iplayer to watch it at 10:00).
