read this story earlier today, found it interesting to see a prominant british paliamentarian adopt this stance against his own people. was he naive in what he said, or was this a negative outburst aimed to insult and upset?

A prominent Jewish MP has compared the actions of Israeli troops with Nazis who forced his family to flee Poland.

Sir Gerald Kaufman, MP for Gorton in Manchester, drew the parallel during a Commons debate on the Gaza conflict.

Some members of the Jewish community - including his fellow MPs - have questioned the comments.

Louise Ellman MP, of the Labour Friends of Israel group, said the "dreadful" war in Gaza was not comparable to German actions in World War II.

Sir Gerald, who was brought up as an orthodox Jew and Zionist, told MPs: "My grandmother was ill in bed when the Nazis came to her home town .. a German soldier shot her dead in her bed.

"My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza."

Palestinian deaths in the Gaza Strip have passed 1,000, medical sources in Gaza say, but Israel has continued to resist international calls for a ceasefire.

The Israeli government says the action is necessary to prevent Hamas rocket attacks into southern Israel.

Labour MP Louise Ellman said: "The Nazis were about rounding up and exterminating people because of their origins.

"What we're witnessing in Gaza is a dreadful war and the Israelis are trying to stop Hamas continuing to launch rockets from Gaza, targeting and killing and murdering Israeli citizens."

But speaking to the BBC on Friday, Sir Gerald said he was standing by his comments.

"We had an IRA bomb in Manchester which destroyed much of the centre - we didn't send troops over to Belfast to murder 1,000 Catholics."

Sir Gerald said he had been a long-term supporter of Israel and has personally known many of its prime pinisters.

But he added: "I am not going to stand by and keep silent when the Israeli troops - with a dreadful government sending them there - kill large numbers of innocent people with no useful result at the end of it all."

what army in the world would give his opponents supllies and medicines?!
what army in the world would stop firing for hours in order to allow entrence of supplies to his opponent?
what army in the world would provide medical treatments in his territory for his opponents?
the problem is that they don't show you that in your media because it does'nt provide such ratings as the hamas propaganda is.
my advice to you is to read everything about this conflict, not just what they show you now in your media.
the way I see it is that people who doesn't know practicly nothing about thos conflict criticise us with no real foundation of what they are saying.

One thing to note here: The Israelis keep on reminding us of the holocaust. The Arabs had nothing to do with the holocaust. Unfortunately, they have used the holocaust as an excuse for decades now. They forget that 6 million other people (not jewish) were part of the Nazi's criminal holocaust. They also forget that most Arabs have no hatred towards jews in particular, but towards 'criminal' governments (be it Muslim, Christian, Jewish....) They also forget that not all Arabs are Muslims.

I think he was expressing his anger at the situation as he ought to. I do agree with him, it's the same scenario just on a smaller scale. The Nazi's, under orders, killed innocent people for the 'safety' of their nation. The Israeli govt and army are do the same thing.

If Israel REALLY wanted to protect it's citizens it would have maintained the ceasefire not broken it. The claims that Hamas broke the ceasefire are completely fabricated, any consequent missile attacks from Hamas are retalitory.

It was reported that Israel broke the cease fire on the 4th of Novemeber by sending a missile into Gaza killing six. Google it. Does the 4th of November ring a bell to you?

they broke the cease fire before that actually when they didnt lift the economic blockade promised to them. its certainly possible for me to make that claim without being in that area.

we keep mentioning the holocaust in order to emphesize the fact that the jewish nation need a territory as much as any nation. not only because of the holocaust- there were persecuations also in arab countries like yemen, russia, iran, marroco, practicly everywhere.
and as a warning to the world that cruelty is out there, and it is evolving in leveles which I guess people can't comprehend.
the solution to jewish problem was this country- our home land.

Israel should learn from Russia.
Russians killed 100,000 Chechens. Only 5% of them were terrorists and other 95 % civilian was killed. Now there are no terrorists in Chechnya. Now Chechens successfully are rebuilding economy and even don?t think about annoying Russians anymore.
Russian experience is invaluable. Russian had wars and won with more than hundred nations. Now all this nations live in peace with Russians.
I am just laughing when I think that would happen with Palestine if Hamas
fired rockets in Russian territories. Palestine would becomes just land without buildings, without trees, without anything and probably more than 100,000 would be killed. One thing is for sure. Palestinians would behave very nicely after that.
Military solution is possible. All Russian history proves it. Israelis just should not be

not trying to prove/disprove anything ivan, it was a story in our press here in the uk, i just wondered how the views of a jewish mp, would be interpreted, i had hoped that some jewish posters would respond.

i assure you that there was no hidden agenda by the post, and as for the retard comment, gerald kaufman is a very intelligent man, i would not ever assume he was in some way mentally challenged, wish i had his knowledge, expertise and job in the british parliament.
