dentists, and being put into sleep for extractions, is it safe?

its awful, they say u make the mistakes on ur first, its true! my second son has beautiful teeth, my oldest, not yet 5 has terrible teeth! it is my fault completely, though the dental nurse said milk bottles at nite were probably the cause, more than anything.
anyway my little guy has to have 6 extractions under an anesthetic, is this safe? his dad had a freaker & said its dangerous, is it? i feel awful, i just didn't know they could go so quickly. message to folks, its so important to mind their teeth, he's going to feel awful for the first while after, i wish id minded his teeth better!

If you're not sure about the recommendations of a dentist, go ask another. Talk to a professional.

no they are first teeth, they said its better to do it in one go, and his second will start to come through

I had a load of dental problems when I was younger, and I'm the eldest, my sister's teeth are just as bad really!

I was basically hooked on dummies, and it preventing my teeth from breaking through because I constantly had one in my mouth, so by the time they did come through, I had a full grown adult toother pushing through the roof of my mouth behind both my 2 top front teeth!

in total I had about 5 or 6 extractions along with about 4 or 5 fillings (I loved sugar, what can I say?) but I was never put to sleep for it

I didn't like the needles though, whenever one entered my mouth I would constantly lash out at the dentist! So I kept getting refurred to all these different dentists...

where I eventually was seen to by this one dentist who not only gave me happy gas! but also went out of her way to study hypnosis so it'd calm me down enough to go through with everything, and it worked!

looking at my teeth now you wouldn't think I had to have braces for a year and several years of toothache!

Though personally I would get another dentist's opinion, to go out to sleep at such a young age just for some extractions is ridiculous and it'll cost a bomb surely!

I don't think doing it all in one go is the best option either, I ached all over after having 1 blinking extraction...never mind having 6 I'd be in agony for a week with that personally!!!!

See someone else, and remind me not to see your current dentist

My brother had 5 extractions at once, when he was a kid, he was put to sleep for it and he was fine.

I thought they stopped putting people to sleep at the dentists, must just be in the UK. I feel for you and your son. I have a phobia of dentists, I dread the day I have to take my son.

You really need to get yourself to a dentist for a thorough cleaning and checkup.

Yeah I know but the phobia's quite bad, I religiously brush twice a day, mouth wash etc.

Whats funny was my mum was a dental nurse, Maybe it was her fault

Maybe it was, but you should get over your fear and call for an appointment right now

I know but I can't...and its not like I even had a bad experience so i've no idea where this comes from.

I've no fillings, cavities etc, not bad for 31 and living in the uk.
