What direction does your water drain?

I have heard if you fill a sink with water and then pull the plug out, the water will drain in different directions (clockwise or anti-clockwise) depending on if you are in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere.
Have you tried it and what direction did it drain?

Nah it's not true,
It has an influence but its so small you can't measure it in such a small example as a sink.

It is a real effect though and it applies to air currents. Other factors such as how the sinkhole is designed and what surface the container is play an infinitely bigger role in how water flows out of a sink.

I'm not sure why this little nugget of misinformation is so widespread.
