Anyone got any ideas. Got a new 8 week old puppy. Just wondering wot is best way to get him toilet trained. I bring him outside in garden everytime he wakes or eats and drinks and he does it. But then when he comes back in he goes straight on to his puppy pads and does it again.

Also when I go bed he whines for ages wanting attention but I don't come down cause was told he will expect that all time. Some people say put a ticking clock in his bed or a teddy. Done that not working he whined for hours last night.

If I remember correctly, puppies younger than 4 months are incapable of holding their bladders for longer than 5 hours. Try taking him out every two hours or so. I don't know exactly what could be causing him to use the puppy pads immediately afterward, but keeping him outside longer might be an option. If you start rewarding/praising him for using the bathroom in the right places he'll be more inclined to do so in the future. Think positive-reinforcement.

years ago, when my family got an old english puppy one of us sleep in the kitchen with the puppy for three days or so. my puppy finally got used to us. it settle down. with toilet training, we kept the puppy in the kitchen with newspapers all over the kitcken's floor. we let the puppy go into the rest of house, see her what happen. her name was dolly. if dolly peed on the floor or a rug. we stick dolly's nose in the pee, don't told 'no! '. or you roll newspaper or magazine and your puppy on the nose, and said ' no! ' i am sure there is another way, until you take the puppy to ' behavior training school '. you might try a teddy bear or stuffing animal( stuffing animals for dogs or cats ) to next the puppy to see that might with the whining. the puppy is homesick, where you got him or her.

Crate training!
Take away the puppy pads.

Worked for 3 of mine.

Positive reinforcement, no punishment for accidents.

And some devious psychological terrorism will make them afraid of green towels.... just sayin'

I was told by a dog trainer years ago, to train them to go to the puppy pad inside then each day move it closer to the door which you want him to exit to eventually go outside to go.

pretty similar i'm guessing to mrmhead's advice above, just without the tray. I've trained a few over the years, with this method and it's worked well.

Puppy's are a bit like human babies though, you'll get the odd one with attitude who'll pee where he chooses good luck, though they're well worth it what breed is he ? and what did you name him?
