Stock futures moved lower and Treasury prices rose on an unexpected increase in weekly jobless claims. The dollar weakened slightly.

Initial unemployment claims climbed by 19,000 to 479,000 in the week ended July 31, the Labor Department said in its weekly report Thursday. The last time claims were this high was the week of April 10.

Fraid not! If most of the stumulous was sirected to the small business section knstead of the financial and banking sectors I would give the stimulous a positive chance. Better to trickle up via taxing than tricklwe down as it now is.

I actually agree with you on this..
Sadly, when the time came to hand out money, the republicans in Congress howled like dogs on fire about giving away money to small businesses.. So it ended up going to huge companies, and government spending instead.

After all, small businesses don't fill their coffers.

Unemployment sucks and expected to continue to suck, and the capital logjam continues with banks and bidnesses not knowing what the hell the government is going to do next, rake 'em over the tax increase coals or shove 'em through the bureaucratic meat grinder--all the time sayin' "We're here to help".

How's that Hope AND Change workin' out for ya?

Well, since I don't make over $200,000 a year, and I didn't receive the glorious benefits of this tax cut under the Bush years, even though everyone knew it would grow the deficit.. I don't much care that it's going to expire.

Yet another trick of the right. They call this a tax increase, when all that's happening is an unfunded tax break for the wealthy is going to expire. It's not a tax increase, it's bringing our country back to the way things were when Bush first became president.

Isn't that what you all want?

Sure, lets have unfunded bail outs...unfunded stimulus...unfunded unemployment benefits extension...Taxes? you bet...The future citizens are going to pay for it!!!!through TAXES!

So... We should continue to have unfunded tax cuts for the wealthy, even though they contributed to the mess that we're in now?

Can you explain why?

I was speaking pure sarcasm...Blame Bush(and his last two years as a lame duck) and I'll blame the other guy..what's his name? What goes around comes around.
Why blame what is in the past, rather than focusing on the future...what a sad country we have become, when we feel like we have to bicker, rather than try to meet in the middle....ggggrrrr

Boxer, I can tell you, that if "the other guy" doesn't quit spending like he has a blank check, we will NEVER dig our way out of this hole we are in...If you have a credit card, would you continue spending on it, even if you knew there was no way in hell you could pay it off?
The spending needs to be reigned in! WHOHH NELLY!

Unless someone can educate me otherwise...a tax cut cannot be unfunded, only spending...one only needs to look at economics 191...entry college course!
