Anyone here play the drums? I got the urge to learn, so i bought a Ludwig set. I don't have any cymbals yet, but i am looking at Zildjian ones(i think thats how you spell it). But do you have any tips that will help me out? I don't want to take any lessons, cause ive always been a do it yourself kind of person.

I would advise you take lessons.

I've been drumming for about 7 years now and when I stop taking lessons I get really bad. You can learn how to improvise by yourself but it's always a good idea to get some guidance, especially in the beginning. I actually gave drum lessons last year to a 10 year old! It was fun!

I want to learn how to read tabs. I can read notes and I can improvise a bit, but I need to start taking lessons because I think I've reached a point where I just need to be helped along to that next level.

But yeah. I'd start out with learning a simple rock beat to get your coordination going. You have to learn how to count it too, counting is VERY important, especially with drumming.

Maybe start with using the toms in simple fills only. Later you can incorporate them into cooler stuff

I have a tama kit. I don't have any fancy cymbols. I just bought it last year. I kept the cymbals that came with the set. I'm looking into buying a splash cymbal since I think they're cute

hehe, you wanna come give lessons to my 5-year-old? My brother thought it would be a cool idea to give my 3-year-old (at the time) a drum set . . . which has been sitting in the garage ever since.

I have been looking into simple beats the last few months. But i never had a set to try them out on. I kind of know how to count. But if i ever need someone to teach me something, some of my brothers friends play the drums so i could just ask them to give me a little instruction. But we'll see if i have to take some lessons.
