Following in the footsteps of Greece, Wisconsin et al, California's teachers are howling to keep a special tax extended to 'support education'.

"Democrats warn, if the state doesn't extend the taxes—they say they will have to cut education by $4.7 billion. This could mean larger class sizes, a shorter school year, and even fewer extracurricular programs."

"But the reality is that despite recent cuts, education spending and the student-teacher ratio are about the same as they were in 2004. The real problem is that more and more tax dollars are being diverted for teacher benefits. The Los Angeles Unified School District is paying 11% more for teacher health benefits than it did two years ago (when the tax hike went into effect!)."

Keep higher taxes

The S.O.S. tactics. "If we don't raise taxes we'll have to cut the Fire & Police departments."

We continue to spend increase the per student expenditures in the U.S. to the point that we have one of the per student cost of education in the world. Yet our education ranking keeps slipping in comparison to other countries.

The question I want to know is why do we continue to fall behind in education despite spending more and more money?

And I know the knee-jerk reaction many people respond with is "its the parents' fault" (which I agree is a contributing factor). Which leads to another question if true; why don't parents care about their child's education these days?

Take a look at Maryland.. More money for teachers, but they can be fired if they do not perform. No tenure ever.. And best public education system in the US, and the gap between Maryland students and students from other states is growing every year..

But, a teacher who performs can make six figures here.. And one who doesn't, can go and teach in Wisconsin or Arizona.

Yes, the per-member health care costs have skyrocketed. But that is due to the general increasing cost of health care in the U.S., not to any added benefits for the teachers, because there most certainly has been none. Teachers even must co-pay now, something they didn't have to do in 2004.

That (parents), union strength, and the No Child Left Behind Act.

And dude, since we are finally on the subject of health care again, I'll ask you something that you never answered the first time I asked you.

What is YOUR solution to the health care crisis in America? All I ever hear from the likes of you is that you want to end Obamacare.

Fine. End it.

Now, how about solving the issue of 30 million uninsured due to the spiraling costs of insurance and care?

Got a solution?

Instead of getting more people insured, maybe we should be looking at getting more people uninsured?

Supply and demand. Less people with insurance and the price would drop due to a drop in demand.

I don't think it would work, because everyone has emergencies and needs health care. That's like telling people to stop buying food to bring the cost of food down.

Emergencies should be covered by insurance, but general illnesses shouldn't. But that's a different thing altogether.

Just my opinion. lol

And a corresponding increase in mortuary costs & burial plot fees!
