how are we viewed over there? i'm just wondering since the world's view of the USA isn't great these days.

just so you know, nobody i know looks down on the u.k or canada.. though we do affectionately refer to canada as "canadia" or sometimes "casnadia"

and as for the u.k (and aussies as well..) 99% of americans absolutely love your accents..

just giving a little perspective!

But I doubt people who hold such stereotypes actually know any Americans.

Americans are their own worst enemies, they think the whole world is a hollywood movie location and they are the directors and producers, they need to take off their blinkers and get out into the real world. They are not happy unless they are dominating the countries of the world that dare stand up for themselves and differ from their viewpoint.

purely out of curiosity.. i understand why some people see us as money-hungry gun-toting xenophobes..

i just find it interesting to see the perspective of people from other countries.. even if it means they don't like mine

most people who hold those perspectives are the ones who actually dont bother to seek out for themselves and allow themselves to be spoon fed such stereotypes.

I can just imagine them getting off the plane in Sydney and being shocked that all the men arent wearing corked hats and drinking lager. Or going to paris and having a stroke because they arent all wearing stripey tops with onions hanging around thier neck.

I do things like that but everyone knows I'm not serious about it

Although when I went to work in France for a week, I was in Le Mans at night time and there was an accordian player with two large poodles and a stripy top on which I thought was hilarious.

I think a lot of people here will base their views on what things Bush has done, then label all Americans the same IMO.
