7 hours after finishing the race she gave birth.

Obviously, there's a lot of dispute over this.
Should have she been running that intensely that far along?
I mean, kudos for her being healthy and not in a lot of discomfort to run, but still.
With the baby head down couldn't that have had some consequences?

Idk, to me it is a little reckless.

I dunno. You'd be amazed how tough unborns can be. I mean, other animals were built to run while pregnant, like Prey animals. Better than getting drunk while pregnant...

Her doctor doesn't seem to think so.

I mean, pregnant women are told it is safe to keep up their usual standard of exercise throughout pregnancy (in fact, women who are unfit/unhealthy before pregnancy are told to get some sort of light fitness regime).

The article says it wasn't her first pregnancy, marathon or pregnant marathon. I imagine she trained for it, so it wasn't a shock to the baby, and she'd know the signs to look out for if it was distressing the baby.

I suppose it could have induced labour, but she was ready anyway, so I don't see the harm it could have caused.

I know that just before my daughter was born the doctor told my wife that light exercise was good, mostly going on walks, but not to over do it. She said too much strain or exercise could cause harm.

My wife walked a lot that month but I can't say I ever saw her step up her pace to any more than a brisk waddle.

I know quite a few women who exercised till the very end of their pregnancy, I don't think it's bad. I hope I can continue to exercise till the very end too.

Shouldn't matter, unless the brat fell out head first onto the pavement.

you never argue with a 9 months pregnant woman, if she wants to run - let her.

In the 3rd world women work to the point of delivery.

Gawd. By the end of my pregnancy my feet were so swollen that I couldn't even walk comfortably anymore. (It's why I bought my boat.) Good for her.

I would be all for it but I have an image in my head of Paula Radcliffe stopping, pulling down her shorts, dropping out a baby, before running off and continuing the marathon.

Isn't that dangerous. I'm not too sure but to me it sounded almost reckless.

I wouldn't think so. Exercise is only stressful if you are working outside of your fitness level. I know when I used to run 4 times a week religiously, I could run a 9 minute mile and have an easy conversation. Obviously this woman is in peak physical condition. Yeah, it's dangerous for an average schmo but I'm sure she took it easy and wasn't stressed at all.
