Miners in Chile nearly out!

Chilean Miners

I dont know how they endured it. These miners were trapped for 2 months underground. They will be out in a couple of days. There are 33 of them and they lost on average 20 lbs down there. I guess they sent the guys some scales so they can weigh them.

Emotionally, I would be traumatized. I could not withstand being in a black hole for more than 60 days.

How would you cope?

Have they actually started lifting them out or are they still getting that capsule ready?

No, they are still cementing things in place but it will be within the next couple of days. These men are heroes to me. Both those under and those above who constructed the device to lift them up.

Poor guys, its a nightmare isnt it.

I don't know how I'd cope, no-one can say how they would cope in certain situations unless they've been in them.

At least they had company and it could have been worse in that they originally said they could be trapped until Christmas.

yeah i was thinking at least they had support, i mean it doesnt make it ok or anything, but there have been miners trapped until death before without ever being found and that must have been just probably the worst thing i can think of actually.

Yeah, I think if you were alone in this situation (even if rescue efforts were taking place) it could cause even more serious mental issues, though I'm not saying they aren't likely to have suffered plenty of mental trauma.

A nightmare for their wives and friends. the story is not over when they get to the surface. Deep mining needs safety reviews both for workers and the environment. A victory for human endurance and science.

and it might not be all bad for them. They have a story to sell to Hollywood.

They are preparing to lift the healthiest miner out now. It should be within the next couple of hours. They say it will take 48 hours to get them all out.

They will be hospitalized for at least 2 days.

At 10:10 pm the 2nd miner was pulled out.This is great news.

I think that when you're in that situation, you do what you have to do to cope with the stress.
