I'm not a cutter. I've run up on a near neighbor who is a Black Female and about three months pregnant. She has tremendous scarring on her left arm. I saw it today and briefly spoke with her. She promised me that she would talk to me before she cut herself again. I've read some information on self injury. I really want to be there for this woman, but I need information of a practical nature on how to approach this situation. What are the chances of cutters harming their children?
I really want to focus on the person rather than the act. Any advice will be appreciated. If possible I would like to have advice from those who have actually practiced cutting. Thank you

she wont hurt thw child believe me. but the way to help her with it is to leave it. dont stare at it dont try and talk to her about it. she knows it swrong and i know from personlal experiences that you talking to her about it will make it worse. its just soemthing she will have to go to get pro. help by her own will.

She needs professional help. Simple as that.

Yep, unfortunately she won't get better unless she wants to, no matter how hard you or anybody else tries, only she can stop it. Just be there for her.

A padded room with no sharp objects allowed might help.
I'm sorry I just don't understand the whole cutting yourself thing.

It is pretty bad...they enjoy the pain...you've gotta be in a real bad state to be enjoying pain... I tried helping a cutter...there's a thread about it in the teen forums...she stopped now and she's happiest I've ever seen her...but they need to do it themselves...if it's a close friend you can be there for them...but...if you don't really know them then it's kinda hard and awkward

Please be very careful with this.... self mutilators are extremely dangerous to
themselves.... if it were me, I'd leave him/her to professional help.....

If you want to take the responsibility of helping, check this out....

You dont have to do anything about it,.Just be there plainly as a Friend or just a concern neighbor of her so she'll forget cutting herself its up to you on how you will make her time more Busy.

I would personally say, don't push the issue with her, listen to her and ne their for her if she comes to you to talk. And if she wants your support with getting and going to appointments with a mental health professional then be their for her when she needs you. She may feel things are out o control in her own life and this is something that she can totally control. She does need professional help but she needs to be willing to accept it. I think the hances of hurting her child are very slim, aslong as she has people around her, both friends and professionals, to make sure she is coping and for her to talk to or just sit with if she doesn't want to be alone.
