"AN acute shortage of skilled workers has produced a new type of immigrant - well-qualified, predominantly Asian and with the threat of expulsion from the country hanging over their heads."..."Under 457 visas, companies sponsor the guest worker for up to four years and are required to pay a minimum wage of $39,100 a year - way above the Australian minimum wage of $24,304.

But regional employers are not obliged to meet the minimum threshold under the scheme, and are required only to pay "an appropriate award".

There is no limit to the number of temporary workers who can be imported each year under the 457 visa category, and after four years the workers have the option to apply for permanent residency.

In Western Australia, where resources companies are investing billions in expansion projects, the number of skilled workers and dependants brought in on temporary visas has quadrupled in the past three years to an annual intake of 7500."

That is not what I meant.

The Australian government is making it hard for Australian youth to get an education yet is going to fund foreigners to study here.

The Australian government is making it hard for Australian's get a job but is making it extremely easy to get a job here.

When you sell out your own to benefit another country, that makes you a traitor. The Australian pollies are Traitors.

I may be wrong but they are bringing in foreign workers to do the jobs cheaper than domestic workers?

You are right. I use to work for Australia Post in Sydney where they imported Filopino's to the point that only their vote matters. Using the Filopino's materialist greed, they traded off a lot of benefits thinking that the immediate cash paid in return was more. Within just 2 financial years, the average employee there lost an average of $10,000.

An example: The workplace was changing is location from the Sydney GPO over to Waterloo. To get to the new location, you had to pass through trouble spots where Aborginal crime against non-Aboriginals is high.

To quell the fears, Australia Post Management offered a bus between the workplace and Central Train Station. A few weeks later, management offered a deal of not having the buses provided for their safety in return for a once off payment of $100. They chose $100.

Importing people to drive down the living conditions of your own people has to be one of the most evil acts a government can do.

Isn't it really difficult to get a workpermit for America though? You have to be "imported" by your company - who need to prove that the post they want you to fill cannot be filled by an American - or you need to marry an American

It is going to be that way in Australia soon with the Industrial Relations laws. These changes will allow employers to import directly 'if no locally found labour can be found'. This is also going to include unskilled labour.

There is a mass of unskilled labour. Just more policies feeding the multinationals who are have been lobbying to import people in place of Australians. This includes sacking Australian's to do this. Just downgrading wages to prop up their own coffers.

Soon or later, this behaviour will make Cronulla look like a hug session.
