Belated "Race to the TOP

Just found the below article I wrote way back. Our President, Obama, wants our students to "RACE----TOP" You judge why I posted now!

FEEDING FRENZY
It has been agreed that the public school system must be
improved. President Clinton says so! Our governor Grey Davis
says so! Our California Legislature says so! The governors of
our States say so! The news media says so! So it must be so?
And it is possible that the top brass of our public
school systems may believe it so! This can include the AFT,
CTA, and NEA. They may believe it so!
And, in reviewing the past fourty years, it was so!
BUT! BUT! BUT! As far as I can decipher, ALL of the past
improvements (ATTEMPTED) have now been recycled. Seems that the
real means to upgrade the students' (whatever it may be
called) has yet to be identified by the powers that are.
There is a pecking order in our society - as it is in
the animal kingdom. In the animal kingdom the meat eater is
at the top of the food chain. All other animals - including
fish and fowl - are his food if he so desires. Except, of
course, his own kind. These he trains in the ways for survival.
We are assumed to be a part of the animal kingdom BUT
we are also assumed to be reasoning entities. So!
Man also, at one time, trained his young just to survive!
No more! Today survival is not dependent on food alone.
Our young must be provided with a different type of food.
Whereas the old food chain extended upward, the new one MUST
extend from the top DOWN! A different level - REASONING - in
the basics and abstract is the food for survival!
OUR LEADERS PROPOSALS ARE IN DOUBT!
Our leaders have been chumming in hopes that their
proposals-as they were presented - would show that they were
right! But they, apparently were NOT! Conclusion? - Our
problem exists now!
It is obvious that they, being above my level of
intelligence in the field of education, have the only handle
on how our youth WILL be INSTRUCTED!
Even Forest Gump understood the basics!!! And they are?
guess? No! The student is the product of our system! Is he
what we want to produce? Let us cut to the chase!
One single set of elements is missing. It is the
basic information OUR STUDENT can draw from to make
DECISIONS. And that MUST be done in ambience conducive to
LEARNING. Attention! Tolerance! Respect! Courtesy!
Objectivity! DRESS! Attendance! THESE AND MORE ARE
NECESSARY!!!
Please note that those ELEMENTS are NOT ADDRESSED by our top
proposers. And we shall recycle again!
