Popular music originating in Jamaica in the 1960s, having elements of rhythm and blues, jazz, and calypso and marked by a fast tempo and a strongly accented offbeat.

[From the phrase (Love) Ska(voovie), greeting used by Jamaican bassist Cluet Johnson, one of the early creators of ska, or imitative of the sound of a guitar in tandem with a rim click on a snare drum.]

There's a reason my nickname is JAZZ. There's also punk ska.

Toasters, Madness, Bosstones, Catch-22, the Specials, the Skatalites, the Skeletones, the Arrogant Sons of b****es, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Flatliners, Big D & the Kids' Table, early Less than Jake/Reel Big Fish (their newer stuff is more or less pop with horns. Streetlight Manifesto is widely considered ska, and they're my favorite band, but they're more than just Ska.

Ska is my life, the collective definition above is sufficient with the exceptions of lighter 3rd wave such as The Mad Caddies, Mustard Plug, or Pepper...

and more hip-hop influenced ska such as Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, and
older No Doubt (Tragic Kingdom).
