black&white

im dating someone that my parents dont approve of. its not like they have ever met him and they dont have any realy reason to dislike him. they dont like him because he is black and i am white and they think he is going to be bad to me. they dont understand times have changed and i know how to take care of myself. they wont take me to see him so i can only talk to hiom on the phone. what argument can i make to let them see that color dosent matter??

Oh God, thats a hard one to answer as I might offend you by saying something about your parents. I dont like racism, but it does exist. I always say things like, what colour does he or she bleed. The answer is normally red. It's as simple as that for me I'm afraid.
Good luck trying to let them see this.

I'd say, let your parents get use to it gradually over time and don't try to force them to accept it, but then again, don't give up on your boy friend either.
When I was growing up, my mom had an affair with a Black man while married to my father, and my father actually approved of it. It caused their marriage to go "opened". Also, my oldest sister is married to a Black guy and they have a wonderful marriage and three beautiful kids so far. I myself have had several Black boy friends - long term - and I wouldn't hesitate to marry a Black guy at all.
I think that your parents will eventually come around to this relationship of your's. It may take time, but if they see that you aren't getting pregnant or getting into anything that might be harmful to you, they'll probably calm down a lot. You just have to be patient. In the mean time, I'd keep seeing this guy if I were you. You can't really have your personal associations dictated by others - even your parents. They have your best interests at heart, and are probably more concerned over this Black guy's background and upbringing than anything else. Give them time and they'll see there's no danger to you.

keep seeing him any way you possibly can, or sit your parents down and say to them that you understand they are just looking out for you but if they got to know him they might actually like him. ask them if he can come round for tea one night to meet them
