So. The article explained why the poo is cube shaped. But what about upon the exit of the body? Is the anus cube shaped too, then? If not, it's got to shape, or cut off, the poo into (partly - around the edges? ) whatever shape it is, right?
This is so weird (interesting, but weird. I never knew about this before)

What I often wonder about these kinds of oddities is, what pressures influenced the natural selection that lead to this?

They said they use their droppings to mark territory. Square poop won't roll away ... did that have something to do with it?

I'm pretty sure the poo is coming out in long cubic tubes... then these little fairies (Poo Fairies) run up and cut the poo into cubes. These fairies are really fast so hardly anyone ever sees them.




Or... Wombats lack of the level muscle contraction found in most other mammals, so their rectum "fails to shape the poop in the usual cylindrical poop fashion".

Or... Wombats are like the X-Men of crazy mammals and their power is the cube.
