Trump didn’t collude with Russia — he’s not smart enough for something that complicated

Does playing nicely include not hacking into U.S. government, business and privately owned computer systems?

Something the Russian Government has been doing, both directly and indirectly, for decades (not counting the Soviet era): since 1991.

Do you think this is ever really something avoidable though? I think it's naive to think that any government that's considered a formidable world power (including ours) doesn't do things like that. Regardless of whatever administration is in place, I'd wager my next paycheck that the CIA has hacked into God knows how many computer systems in foreign countries. I say this with no evidence but a pretty confident guess, of course.

I would wager this sort of behavior has taken place among allies as well...is it honestly all that unrealistic to think we've hacked into a British computer somewhere in the past few decades?

Just playing devil's advocate. I believe there is a lot of activity like this that any government with any real power takes part in, and that the general public is largely unaware of.

Maybe I'm paranoid.

If there is no God, is it a push?

No. It is not avoidable. Even with good network security, even with the "best" network security, 1st world countries (both friend and foe) will attempt to hack each other.

The goals and motivations are simple and honest: making money, gaining information, becoming more "powerful". "We" do it for our reasons. "They" do it for their reasons.

On the other hand, when hacking is actually seen, "caught" and reported on, it is naive for people to deny it happened. It is equally naive to deny the "why" of the hacking....regardless of whether or not the hacking was successful in either its attempt or in the achievement of its ultimate goal.

(It is also naive to "trust" the claims of anyone who "makes their living" off of hackers and/or covert sources of information.)

Paranoia: You may be paranoid, but it doesn't mean you are wrong.

You would win that wager, but the odds are such that you wouldn't make much money.

Although it is likely that more U.S. based hacking is done by the NSA than by the CIA...though that might be up for debate (any details provided by either the CIA or the NSA on that topic couldn't be trusted).

Sadly this is the truth.

Actually the French are the only ones who (seem to) do it for "good".

The U.S., UK, Russian, Chinese, Israelis...etc etc... all do it for "national security".

French intelligence hacks and then gives the information to their corporations to assist them in being more competitive in the world economy. (Of course French intelligence also do keep some of the information for "national security" also.)

Agreed. There are too many nukes involved to want to go back to Cold War tensions.

Yeah, it's been awhile. I moved to a different state and got distracted with other things as well. But I'm back.
