If your family is like many in the United States, buying lots of bottled water into your home, it??s easy to take a cold one right out of the fridge while watching a soccer game on TV, right?
But all those plastic bottles use a lot of fuels and pollute the environment. In fact, Americans buy more bottled water than people in any other nation in the world. In order to make all these bottles, manufacturers use 17 million barrels of oil. That??s enough oil to keep a million cars going for twelve months.
So why don??t more people drink water straight from the kitchen tap? Some people drink bottled water because they think it is better for them than water out of the tap, but that??s not true. In the United States, local governments make sure water from the tap is safe.
People love the convenience of bottled water. But maybe if they realized the problems it causes, they would try drinking from a glass at home or carrying water in a container instead of plastic.
Unfortunately, for every six water bottles we use, only one is recycled. The rest end up as rubbish on the land and in rivers, lakes, and the ocean.
Water is good for you, so keep drinking it. But think about how often you use water bottles, and see if you can make a change.

Michaelsmith you are right I know.

In Australia our local 60 minutes people did an investigation into the benefit of bottles versus tap water. There is no difference in purity we found. It also looked at how much oil was used to make the bottles used for the water we buy. Ugh. Too much as you might have guessed.

In Australia the message was clear to us. Our tap water is clean and of high quality - stop being lazy, fill up at home, we have been told.

I'm trying, honestly.

Your point is well made.

Tap water is actually better because it contains necessary minerals and chemicals, such as flourine.

I have a 600-800 mL reusable water bottle that I use all the time.

I've got a bottle on my desk that I fill up at work and I have a large evian bottle at home that I use and re-fill for when I work out.

In my case it is simply the difference in taste. The tap water in this town in Texas has a very low mineral content, making the water excessivly soft and tasteless.
Bottled water is a much more pleasant taste.

YUP!

My hippie aunt gave her son distilled/purified water and NO fluoride when we was younger. He had HORRIBLE teeth because of it. Luckily she stopped before it was too late.

I hate city water.. I grew up on well water and there is quite a difference in taste.
Saying that, I hate water and always have to add crystal light to it

I have well water that tastes like crap. Heavy in iron and sulfer smell. I do buy bottled water but clean and refill the bottles with water from a really clean natural spring a few miles from home. After a while the bottles start to look a bit nasty so I send them into the recycling bin.

I realize that I may be a bit off topic here, but I felt a need to inject my 2 cents worth. It is not neccesary to ingest (swallow) fluoride to gain the benefits to our teeth. It just needs to be applied to the surface of the tooth. With that said, please look at the links I have provided, for more information on why we should STOP fluoridating the water supplies.

We have well water, there is no fluoride in our wells.and our teeth are fine.
City water has chemicals to clean it too [chlorine]and you can smell it in the water,
I will keep my well water..
