Hermit Crabs are not suitable pets for children. You can't pet them. They try to pinch you. They hide. They do not need people to give them baths.
Last summer my Mother-in-Law went on vacation and bought a Hermit Crab as a souvenir for my younger son. She could have just bought him a T-shirt but she said that he needed to learn to be responsible.
It turned out that the crab she gave us was woefully under equipped. It needed a crab habitat and friends to survive.
For weeks I waited for it to come out of it's shell, I thought it was dead. It never came out. I knew it was unhappy and even though I really didn't want a crabitat I went out and spent more then a hundred dollars to make the crab happier.
It worked. The crab finally came out of it's shell and was having a good time in the crabitat with his new crab friends.
The very next day that crab died. I like to think it died of happiness.

My eldest son of 16 years of age just gave me two beautiful Adirondak chairs that he made in wood shop. I'm so proud of him. He has proven to be very proficient in wood shop as well as academically. I have this overwhelming urge to brag.
April 2008 was my busiest month ever with over 120,000 post! This beats the last busiest month ever, March 2008, that had over 85,000 posts. Additionally, more than 2/3rds of the busiest days ever were in April.
There will soon be in excess of 2.2 million posts and 40,000 accounts.
